Born in Khartoum and educated in London, Yara brings an Arabic calligraphic sensibility to her ink and wash practice, working with traditional Japanese brushes and handmade inks alongside Western materials. Her paintings are made quickly and decisively, pools of diluted ink spreading unpredictably across wet paper, with marks of concentrated black line cutting through the washes. Subject matter drifts between pure abstraction and legible natural form: a hillside, a river bend, a tangle of branches. Yara has exhibited across London and internationally, with solo shows in Beirut, Amsterdam, and New York. She is represented by a Mayfair gallery.
