Reuben studied Fine Art at Slade before undertaking a residency in New York that cemented his commitment to large-scale abstract painting. He is influenced by the Colour Field painters, Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Gilliam, but his work has a more physical, action-oriented quality. He uses large brushes, rollers, and his own hands, building up layers of oil and acrylic in sessions that can run for twelve hours. His paintings are designed to create environmental experiences, altering the feel of a space rather than simply decorating it. Reuben's work has been acquired by major corporate collections and installed in hotel lobbies, headquarters buildings, and public institutions.
